Why the Heat Treatment Matters
Untreated carbon steel begins with a silver surface that can change through blue, brown, and black as it is heated and seasoned. Conventionally blued carbon steel starts darker but may still change significantly during early use.

Normal patina, spots, and small variations still develop as the pan is used. These are part of the cooking surface and do not affect performance.

Ready to Cook After Washing
Each pan is protected with food-safe beeswax and oil during storage and shipping. Before first use, wash it with warm water, mild soap, and a soft sponge, then dry it completely.
Once clean and dry, the pan is ready to cook with. The heat-treated surface provides some initial slickness, although preheating, cooking oil, and proper timing still help food release.
You do not need to complete several rounds of seasoning before preparing your first meal. We recommend one or two initial rounds of seasonings if you want to strengthen the surface before cooking.

A light orange or brown residue may appear during the first one or two uses. This is usually oxidized beeswax or oil rather than rust. It will stop as the protective residue disappears and seasoning covers the surface.

A Surface That Becomes Slicker With Use
Every time you cook with oil or fat, additional seasoning can develop on the surface. This gradually improves release and makes the pan slicker and more consistent.
Seasoning does not need to be perfect. Use the pan regularly, keep it dry, and add a maintenance layer only when the surface looks dry or begins to lose performance.
If seasoning is damaged, it can be renewed. Clean the affected area, dry the pan, and apply another thin layer of oil.
Designed for Stability and Control
The pan’s subtle concave base expands toward flat as it heats. This controlled movement helps maintain contact with the cooktop and reduces the risk of long-term warping, especially on induction.
The hollow stainless steel handle reduces weight and slows heat transfer compared with a solid metal handle. Its shape provides control when lifting, turning, and pouring, and it is suitable for oven use.
The handle can still become hot during extended stovetop or oven cooking, so use appropriate protection.
What Still Requires Care
Heat treatment makes carbon steel easier to begin with, but it does not remove the need for basic care.
Wash the pan with water and a sponge or brush, dry it immediately, and re-season it when the surface needs attention. Avoid long cooking with tomatoes, wine, citrus, or vinegar because acidic ingredients can weaken seasoning.
